Perhaps best known as the winemaker for Caymus for many years, Randy Dunn and his wife moved to Howell Mountain in 1979. This rugged, tree filled mountain is known for turning out some richly textured Cabernet Sauvignons, with Dunn being the pre-eminent producer of this wine.
Listed as a second growth in the 1855 classification, Château Pichon-Lalande is one of the most sought after wines from Bordeaux. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, & Petit Verdot make up the blend. The estate was purchased by the Rouzaud family, the owners of Champange Louis Roederer in 2006.
Napanook, a legendary property in lower Napa Valley was owned by the daughters of John Daniels, who went into partnership with Christian Moueix, best known as the owner of Petrus in 1982. The first wine called Dominus Estate was produced in 1983 but was released after the 1984 vintage was offered. Moueix purchased the estate in 1995. While the earlier vintages contained more Merlot to balance the Cabernet Sauvignon, it has largely been replaced by Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot. This is a restrained style of wine for Napa Valley, more earthy and sure to please Bordeaux fans as well.
